Tucked away on a beautiful 150-acre mountainside in St. Johnsbury, Vermont, the Dog Chapel at Dog Mountain is a truly unique and emotional roadside attraction. Built in 2000 by artist Stephen Huneck as a tribute to his own beloved dog, this charming wooden chapel has become a sacred space for dog lovers from around the world. Inside, the walls are covered floor-to-ceiling with thousands of photos, handwritten notes, collars, and mementos from pets who have passed on. The atmosphere is incredibly moving — a place for remembrance, celebration, and quiet reflection. Many visitors leave their own tributes, making the chapel a living, ever-changing memorial. Outside, the chapel is surrounded by scenic hiking trails, wildflower meadows, and stunning views of the Vermont countryside.
